Fantasma formed in New York City in 2022, started by two friends who left Brazil in search of a better future. Their name – Portuguese for “ghost” – reflects the project’s central theme: a soul trying to become real amid hostile, dystopian circumstances.

Rooted in punk and post-punk with clear nods to Wire, Wipers and UK anarcho-punk, their sound is also shaped by Brazilian soul, especially the influence of Tim Maia. These songs are driven by lived experience: class struggle, undocumented life, cycling to survive, faith in the intangible, and love that falters under pressure.

The current lineup features Lucas Cabu, Gustavo Venturelli, Marc Grillo (Stigmatism), Margaret Chardiet (Pharmakon / Dollhouse) and Craig. Written and recorded at home by Venturelli and Cabu, the album arrives as the first full-length from Fantasma, following an early demo cassette.

A stark, emotionally charged collection steeped in DIY punk, it recalls A Culture of Killing, Straw Man Army and Diat while carving out its own identity — urgent, melodic and unmistakably alive.
